Huron Cycling has developed a novel bicycle drivetrain component with improved speed/power ratio. It is based on limited spring action, comparable to recent record-breaking running shoes. Test results show cyclists can go up to 4 % faster with our crank set without spending more energy, as shown in the white paper and conference presentation in the download section below. Drivetrains with a degree of elasticity in general are gaining momentum and have been successfully introduced by others as well.
We have also developed prototypes of an affordable power meter collecting torque data at 1500 Hz (described in the download section below). The unique operation of our crank set allows the use of inexpensive rotary sensors rather than strain gauges.
